wow, there really are BRILLIANT movies in the world.... specially if you can see what the author must have gone through and what he wanted to portray, and how effectively it can be done...

now showing @ ster kinekor, south africa

since i started this page... i have watched... good and bad, in no particular order...

A Destiny Of Her Own / really good, real life fairytale.. bout the spanish inquisition, courtezannes and poetry during the age of decadence in Venice. If you love poetry you'll be inspired!!!
Shakespeare In Love / pretty damn good.. cant remember much though but i saw a lot of deeper intrigues i can't remember now..
Ever After / really good.. cinderella remake... and really well done at that...
Antz / quite good, depth in there for all ages.. really well made
Prince of Egypt / Brilliant! The best possible way of telling a bible story
Hercules / WOW!... The best possible way of telling mythology
A Bugs Life / cute, but more of a kids movie than Antz "look, i'm a beautiful butterfly!!!" =)
Very Bad Things
/ so gory i could only laugh.. sattire on religion and death is basically all i remember. Not good at all.
Virus / probably the only Horror movie Ive ever seen that was realistic enough not to make me laugh.. but still very unlikely... or is it? hahaha...
Club 54 / sucked.. some wastenut gets into some posh club. i did not even want to look for anything good in it...
Go! / thought it sucked at first, but made me reflect on things thats happened in my life quite well though. quite good, enough to scare anyone off getting into any shady deals and stuff... heh.. i doubt it... though :) maybe this will be mythology in 3001.
The Matrix / excellent, had every facet I ever liked about other movies. You'll want to watch it at least twice.. its worth it!! liberating to some i guess...its one of those movies that you just think, WOW, why has it taken so long for someone to make this??? Depicts reality as relative as it really is.
Thirtheenth Floor / I did not want to watch this, I thought it would be some pathetic horror movie or something. It turned out not to be that bad. Straight after I watched it I did not think it was as WOW as matrix, but as I wondered about it the next week or two, I started liking it more and more. (Not that I did not catch everything when I watched it, I just appreciated it more...) It's really cool the way you notice some really subtle symmetries in the movie. I think they should have made it more subtle, but then I guess some people would not catch it at all. I even know people who did not catch the point of Matrix.. knock knock anybody home?? :( maybe they understand it better than me! hahaha
eXistenZ
/ pretty much sucked.. a few really cool ideas, pretty gory though. gameconsoles that plug into your spine and use your blood, and needs surgery to be copied. As I said though, a lot of potential... thrown away... the ending could have been made a lot more powerful
Stigmata / powerfully made... if you can realise where the inspiration for this movie came from. wonderful camerawork.. look past the imagery and rather see the feeling behind it.. and the way they connect inspiration and feeling and the source of things.. and the church as an organisation just like any other. But the bottom line is not one that the movie is gonna teach you if you don't believe it already...
Star Wars I / worthy of the oldies, if you havent made too much of the psycho-hype-shit-crap-bull, theres enough magic in here..
Entrapment / first half was boring. interesting commentary on relationships.. nice twists.
Meet Joe Black / three hours of flippin brilliant movie.. loved it, quite deep and dark... dont get me wrong, it is good! I need to see it again, though.
Elizabeth / Not a bad movie. Quite sobering, actually, in a weird way. Makes you wonder about example, love and sacrifice, and somehow, Zen Buddhism. Okay, maybe thats a bit far fetched.. I cant remember why I thought that...
Notting Hill / AAAAaaarrrrrgghh.. Okay. Damn good. Damn funny. Damn damn realistic. That chick really is a BITCH. She is so damn damn cruel. And, it's just oh so frustrating that such a big DORK can hold his pose, understand her motives, and not do to her what she did to him. Ag, damnit. I guess it's worth it, though. Why do some Guys have to apologise for girls' mistakes?
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me / okay, i watched this at the end of Grahamstown Festival, after not sleeping for 3 days. Hah. And it was SILLY. but in a way that makes you act just as SILLY when you walk out of the cinema. :) and i guess it's supposed to rip off a lot of movies I haven't seen and some I have..
American Pie / Oh gosh.. I guess these are the five basic types of matrics. On a mission to get laid. I guess it's realistic (and FuNNy as hell!!!) to a certain extent.. but... it's just a movie.. I wonder how many people's opinion of sex and relationships were tilted more to the liberal side after watching this... and how many saw themselves.. or the different people they've been.. hahaha.. (or seen)
There's Something About Mary / hilarious comedy. really really funny and worth watching. I can't even remember why I thought it was good, though. I just remember the whole cinema cracking up in laughter...
Good Will Hunting
/ hmm.. i guess everyone watching the movie is supposed to feel like the lead character, while at the same time knowing they're too stupid... i guess you could say its about passion, the things in life you can't learn from others, and it's got a very cool view on our university system and some fools that play by it's rules...
White Lies
/ I only saw the last half and... it's quite intense. People are cruel and you will cry for the cruelty of our past. Letting go of some things is probably the most liberating thing you can do.
The Talented Mr Ripley / Starts out like a good-will-hunting movie... until good-little-Will kills his quite cool friend. And his friend's friend.. and when he kills the third person people like me get up and leave. Cuz theres still half an hour left and I don't care how it ends, it's too fucked up already. This guy would kill me too and I dont care what happens to him. So tell me, what happened in the end... did he find perfect replacements for all the people he killed and got away with it? I doubt it... did he get caught.. aw please, how boring. Did someone decide to eat him? One of his cool friends... perhaps? yeah well, in that case, rather watch movies like...
Perdito Durango / Voodoo rituals, young innocent american teenager sacrifices... promiscious mexican chicks and rough bank/grave robbers who knows what they really want... and gets the counter at the bank he's robbing to show him her breasts before he leaves... well, this falls in the same category as quinten tarantino movies... or... who knows. I loved it... and I usually hate these kind of movies. I don't think I would ever watch it again, though. But... It was good. Quite good. And quite FUCKING funny.
Human Traffic / Hahaha... finally a realistic movie about... I dont think there's too much acting in here... about... sex, drugs.. and clubbing... in england. And anywhere for that matter... Quite well made too. I watched it twice. I would'nt pay to see it again, though. If you've ever smoked a spliff... or dropped an E... and liked what happened. Go watch it!!! You'll either love it cuz you see a bit of yourself in there... or hate it for the same reason. Quite chilish sattire.. also quite well portrayed. Heheheheheeehheee.... Oh yeah...

videos:

Pulp Fiction, ive seen a few times... and everytime the plot seemed different. I can't seem to remember it.. I think I need to watch it again. One thing I do remember is how they show that a bible verse can have two opposite meanings. Well.. that is inbetween coke-deals and murders... Probably Quinten Tarantino's most commercial movie... if not his only..
Natural Born Killers... great soundtrack.. watched it again the other day and it really is BRILLIANTLY made! fuckit oliver stone is so flippin good!!! Maybe a morbid topic, but the movie is about "the demon" and "evil". In a "Good" way though!
i watched Mall Rats the other day.. quite funny.. taking over a fucked up gameshow.. hahaha, oh, and beat up the easter bunny. This movie is really really really silly, and it makes fun of the really really silly things in real life. Hmmm... it would SUCK if you're not in the mood...
Half Baked wasnt as good, but here you get dope-smokers in situations where they HAVE to smoke with cops... and it starts out with a really really accurate scene of 4 13-yr olds smoking their first spliff. hahaha... but also quite a silly stoner movie.
Star Wars IV,V,VI.. of course.. its pure fantasy unbound by the rules of (pathetic) sci-fi
2001: A Space Oddysey.. i quite liked it, you'd probably bore to death if youre not into Arthur Clarke's type realistic, optimistic view of the future and origin of things..
Holy Man i quite liked it, this very spiritual guy who doesn't do anything for himself gets pulled into doing ad's nd changes everyones lives by just giving without expecting anything back... oh, and convincing his whole audience to go outside and see how beautiful their lawns are.. hahaha. The bottom line is, it shows how any system steals personality from people. The bottom line of this movie is probably that everyone need to have everyone else around them on TV. focus the idolisation they put into movie stars and rock stars on those around them, rather!!!
Gia.. bout this (lesbian) fashion chick in the 60's, who had very little going for her. Quite sad, makes you think about life, opportunities... and drugs.. the text at the end leaves you with.. argh.. a wonderful yet horrible taste of nothing and everything. No!
In Gods Hands crap movie. DAMN cool surfing footage!!! But the director got way too carried away. Most scenes leave you feeling like a two-year-old watching some way-over-your-head movie. Unfortunately, I guess the director is the two-year-old. Something that was quite accurately portrayed: Addiction. When I watched it, I realised, that the way that the one main character speaks of surfing, is exactly the way a lot of druggies and heroin addicts I have spoken to on the streets of London, spoke about their drug of choice. Exactly the same. You can really get hooked on anything.. and adrenalin is quite an addictive drug. I guess life is about finding constructive addictions. I would personally choose surfing above anything. Except that island girl. The stupid fool in the movie. Thank god it was not some romantic movie, though!!
Message In A Bottle / argh.. no.. depressing. you really don't need to watch this to realise that you have to live in the present to make the best of what you have. this is quite the opposite of a romantic movie, unlike the name seems to imply. the miscommunication thing in the relationship seems to comment on the 90's...
the old James Bond movies.. they really are classic. I watched one the other day, and since I was'nt in pre-primary school anymore, I could actually catch all the witty comments and stuff. Wow, and the technology!! The modern Bond movies just aren't the same, though.
Jackie Brown another Quinten Tarantino thingy.. i would'nt watch it again, but it's as crude as his other movies, I reckon. Depicts characters I'm glad I haven't come accross... and hopefully never will... cuz if i do, they wouldn't be able to stop change... hahahaha!!! yeah, well.. blaH!

And more...
